I'm sure there was a thread like this at some point, but in the interest of potential bandwidth cloggage (or does it really matter?) I'm starting another one under the pretense of an interest in legitimate discussion.
What are your favorite films, directors (of film), etc?
Herzog
Wenders
Hitchcock
Coen brothers
Lynch
Del Toro
Miyazaki
Films:
Wings of Desire (Der Himmel uber Berlin) Alien The Texas Chainsaw Massacre The Vanishing (Spoorloos) Das Boot Dawn of the Dead [1978] Once Upon a Time in the West
Sure, and you could discuss the particular directors/films at any length, if you want. I've seen a few of your favorite films... I really want to see Once Upon a Time in the West. Of those directors that I know I really like Herzog. I've only seen "Lost Highway" by Lynch and I was seriously underwhelmed. I'm hoping Mulholland Drive will live up to the hype.
David Lynch
Jim Jarmusch
Coen Brothers
Ingmar Bergman
Quentin Tarantino
Stanley Kubrick
Terry Jones
Films
The Life of Brian Eraserhead Mulholland Drive Fight Club American Psycho Dead Man Big Lebowski The Seventh Seal Reservoir Dogs The Good, the Bad and the Ugly Léon Taxi Driver The Departed (I've watched the original chinese movie as well. The Departed is way better) L.A. Confidential
David Lynch / David Cronenberg / John Carpenter / Billy Wilder / Woody Allen / Coens / more
Films:
Annie Hall / Big Lebowski / M / The Apartment / Stalker / Stray Dog / Sullivan's Travels / The Tenant / Made in Britain / Alexander Nevsky (though I prefer the score to the film) / The Killing / Plan 9 From Outer Space / more
I really like the movie although I don't really understand it. Lynch said there was a passage from the Bible that explains the whole movie but I'm not very well-versed in the Bible. Somehow this movie has some kind of aura or whatever that makes it so special.
Funnily enough, a couple of months ago I was thinking about changing my avatar to some obscure Eraserhead shot, to see if you'd respond after the Seventh Seal incident. Good to see it back, BTW...
Don't know why I didn't go through with it. Probably one of those ideas that only seems good at the time...
