SteveO Wrote:I never listen to radio music only talk radio so I'm saved. We only have mainstream music radio in this neck of the woods so there's no sense in listening. I find that when I listened to radio music I ended up changing the station continually so I stopped listening.

I am contemplating satellite radio ? I hear it's incredible.

same here. I do listen to talk radio occasionally

On satellite radio, yes it is. Anything you could possibly want.
Daughter has it in her car.
I assume satellite tv is the same.
On Dish network I also get tons of music stations which I listen to at times through the tv.
Again, any genre you could think of.
Sirius and some other package

Not sure what to call these guys, soft pop/rock I guess. It sucked though. Group had four albums in the late 70's with this being the last. Two of their albums did make the Billboard 200, but not this one. However a single from here of For Love did reach #83 on that chart. That song was ok but went with We Never Give Up with the instrumental Silver Stars as the worst. I see the band had a Best Of album in 1984. Bet that was a reach. Reunited for a series of concerts in 1991, but that must have flopped. May have another of the groups efforts. Hope it scores higher than this sleeper.

I DO NOT LIKE THIS ALBUM

MADNESS "absolutely" 1980, vinyl. #2 UK, #56 AU, #146 US

the second album from the "nutty boys" from Nth London.
wasnt sure where to put this as Ska is reggae and that belongs in 'world music' and i wouldnt call them 'alternative', so as their music was danceable i put it here.
their form of cockney sing-a-longs mixed with reggae still sound good today, though not quite as fresh as their debut album in that it doesnt have the same raw/live feel to the tracks, still, no bad ones on here but only two great ones in Embarrassment & E.R.N.I.E.....why was the latter not released as a single? i cant understand it!
either way, love 'em or hate them they did make some wonderfully funny videos for their songs to coincide with their tongue-in-cheek songs.
they started to go downhill slowly after this one and by the mid 80s(with 'driving in my car') had lost their 'way'. they have reformed on and off over the last quarter of a century with the odd tour and comeback album but nothing comes close to the first two.
tracks 1,2 & 14 were top ten hits in the UK

Some strong recommendations on MD, plus falling in love with the single Set Fire to The Rain meant I had to get this sooner or later...

Man, this woman has a great voice (although it sounds like she's overdone things a bit, and is having to rest it) !!

I don't often go for this sort of thing, and just a good voice isn't usually enough for me, but the material is good and the voice is truly exceptional.

At the end of the day, there's not much more than relationship songs here, but no matter, it's still a very good release.

AllMusic 3+/5 stars.

Stefani Germanotta is the real deal !!! She's too intensely creative not to be ! I think she is a visual artist, appreciated more in a video setting ! It must be the Italian blood.... very similar to her idol (imo) another music icon - Madonna Ciccone. I truly believe that what they are doing is portraying modern Italian opera ! Madonna, her mom was French Canadian !, was or is presenting pop dance opera also.

IMO, The majority of today's youth generation are rap, hip-hop, pop, and dance music !!!! and I applaud their choice tremendously even though I may not entirely embrace it !
i agree with you SteveO that Gaga is the "real deal", that album is very good....i have the new one also but havent got round to giving it a whirl as yet!
there are some lovely different styles on "fame monster" and they dont seem to be forced or fake, she embraces them wholeheartedly.

IMHO, she is what Madonna would have been if she was starting out now.
agree with both you guys on Gaga
I reluctantly agree that she is and wants to be a performance artist, better seen live.
However, I don't care for the slick videos. They all seem the same.
As usual with her music, they seem to grow on me, as is the new one
lol. can't think of the name of it, not Born This Way. Can't say that one one ever clicked.

GERI HALLIWELL "schitz-ophonic" 1999,cd. #4 UK, #23 AU, #42 US.

YES, i own this one!...NO, i do not own any Spice Girls material!!!

the Spice Girls did nothing for me at all, even though they had some 10 UK #1 hits in their short career.
this is Ginger Spice's debut set and its not too bad, a bit more mature than the songs with SG's. i love the lead track and first single off this one, "Look At Me"...its a genuinely good pop/dance song. not all the album is in this vein though, there's ballads, pop and even a Latin type tune, Geri had three UK #1s off this one (tracks 2,4 & 6) and a #2 hit also in Look At Me.
what this album exposes is the lack of vocal ability of Geri, she feels cold and hard at times, but at least the songs are more mature sounding than SG's.
i get the distinct feeling that she was trying to emulate Madonna with the mix of songs on this one, but it doesnt match Madonna, still, it isnt that bad an album overall
