Aqualung - Memory Man

21st Century Singer-Songwriterism, with some Alternative Rock tendencies...

What Thom Yorke might sound like if he were a Singer-Songwriter.

Edwyn Collins - Home Again

Recent solo effort from ex-Orange-Juice-er.

Suffered a severe brain hemorrhage between recording & mixing of this album, but appears to be on the road to recovery.

A superior songwriter that doesn't seem to have had the success he deserves, although he has a reputation for being a bit difficult, so perhaps things are as they should be ?!

Over the last coupla days...

Elvis Perkins - Elvis Perkins in Dearland

Moody Alt-Americana from Norman Bates' son !!!

&

Siouxsie & The Banshees - The Seven Year Itch

The most recent live Banshees record. Not as good as Nocturne IMV, but still highly enjoyable

&

Iggy Pop - Preliminaires

Iggy's obviously a Rock performer, but this CD isn't Rock (although there are a couple of normal Iggy-type songs). It contains French chansons, Jazz, Blues etc etc.

Most unexpected for an Iggy album, but a qualified success IMHO.

Coincidence ^

The Stooges - The Stooges

Not strictly Punk as I understand it, but it will fit in here OK.

1969 debut, which is certainly good, but perhaps not as good as its' reputation...

The Decemberists - The Hazards of Love

Alt-Folk-Rock ?!

Vocals (& to some extent, the music) are very reminiscent of The Levellers. Best new record I've heard for a while, & for the record, I don't detect much of the Prog-Rock influences the critics keep mentioning.

&

Throwing Muses - House Tornado/The Fat Skier

The Muses' 2nd album, packaged with an earlier EP. I'm a sucker for this band, and this is their typical jangly Pop-Punk.

Kristin Hersh for President !!!

I was going to say the other day that I agreed about The Stooges first record and that Fun House was miles better.

"Kill the Poor" - Dead Kennedys

Over the past few days, I've been getting into something called "dark cabaret" or "punk cabaret".
Some of the artists I've been listening to are:
The Dresden Dolls
Amanda Palmer
Jill Tracy
HUMANWINE
Pretty Balanced

It's actually really good.(:
